Ten years ago, the fact that US pilots and flight crews are unarmed made it possible for a small group of Islamic terrorists to murder nearly 3000 people and cause billions of dollars of damage to the US economy.
So far, the US government still has no clue how to deal with the Islamic threat, and isn’t even able to correctly identify our enemy due to Political Correctness. Instead, they have hired a bunch of perverts and thugs whose job is to make air travel really miserable for everyone.
They could, but will not, follow the example of the Israelis. Nobody has ever successfully hijacked an Israeli commercial flight originating in Israel. It isn’t possible to do so, because 1) Israeli flight crews are armed and trained in the use of those arms, and 2) Israeli security knows how to spot terrorists and other criminals — without making air travel in that country a bad experience for non-criminals.
